Description
A small original signed pencil drawing/etching by J Eisenberg. The artist's pencil signature is in the right corner along with the title "Jerusalem". A previous owner's details are also on the back, which helps date this artwork to the 1950s or 1960s.*
Jacob Eisenberg(1897-1965) was born in Eastern Europe but emigrated to Jerusalem in 1913. He studied art in Vienna and at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem. The Academy had been established in 1906 and Eisenberg would go on to teach there.
Eisenberg oils can fetch 4-figure sums whereas his original drawings, etchings and limited edition artist prints start at USD75.
The visible image measures 23cm by 13cm(the frame 33cm by 26cm), it's protected behind glass, in good condition(only scratches to frame) and ready to hang.

- Rita Opie worked as a teacher in Sri Lanka for more than 20yrs and retired to the Cashmere address given in 1956 to live with her sisters. She was also a Christian 'missionary' - both of which make her possession of this original artwork and it's appearance in NZ make sense.
