"Tairua Estuary from Royal Billy Point/2" by Janet Bothner-By(1936-2021).

A Ltd Edition 7/20 original artist's print from the 1980s - the "8" of the date is visible in the bottom right corner. I would say the "/2" indicates it is part of a series produced by the artist featuring the location. The location being on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula between Whitianga and Whangamata.

Originally painting under the name Janet Styles(nee Levien), Janet by the time of this artwork had remarried and hence a name change to Janet Bothner-By.

Janet was certainly an adventurous 'love-life' sort of person, as I've seen an image of her about to do the Sky Tower jump about a decade ago. She was particularly known for her colourful landscape oils, however in this 1980s artwork, by contrast, there is a certain calmness and solemnity with it's special tree. She was awarded the Bledisloe Landscape Medal in 1985 and exhibited widely, particularly in the North Island.

Janet's landscape paintings have averaged $815 at Fine Art Auctions and her later 'new' artworks are offered for sale through Galleries ranging from $850 to $6850. This is not an oil painting unfortunately.

The visible artwork measures 29cm by 23cm, it's frame 42cm by 36cm, it's in reasonable good condition and ready to hang. See photos.
