This is a large original abstract watercolour painting by Alison Ryde (b1945). On the back is the title "Summer Terrace S-3". The S-3 is reference to a series of at least four originals. I actually also possessed "Summer Terrace S-4", previously auctioned. Both paintings very reminiscent of what became known as the 1988 'Auckland Blue Series' of which I have found "Gateway", "Balcony" and "Terrace". Therefore I suspect the dating would also be very similar.

Alison Ryde born in NZ, was a working member of the Canty Soc of Artists exhibiting from 1973 to 1988. In 1987 she was 3rd placegetter at the Lindauer Art Awards. She has files held at the Akld Art Gallery, ChCh Art Gallery, Universities of Akld and Canty, and Te Papa. From approximately 1995 Alison has been living in Montefalco, Umbria, Italy and is still actively painting there - colourful abstract watercolours being her speciality although I've noticed in more recent times (since lockdowns) she has been painting a lot of very effective landscapes.

This painting is large - frame measures 73cm by 84cm and the artwork itself 53.5cm square. The painting is excellently framed and protected behind glass. The whole object is in good condition and quite heavy.
