Description
A small antique etching titled "Caerleon".
Caerleon is a town on the River Usk near Newport in South Wales. You will note the name is misspelt below the etching and on the back where it's written "Caerlon - showing Tennyson's window where he wrote 'The Idylls of the King'". The scene is of the Hanbury Arms, where Alfred Lord Tennyson(1809-1892) stayed in 1859 and wrote the aforesaid narrative poem and his room has since been kept unchanged.
The etching is small, measuring 10.5cm by 13cm(the frame 22cm by 29cm) and it's protected behind glass. The etching itself is in good condition, whereas the card surround is very spotty.
