Description
An original signed 1986 watercolour and ink of the Lyttelton-Wellington ferry "Maori" with various condition issues: The artwork itself appears to be in good condition, however the rest has issues. Firstly, the frame's top left corner has at some point come apart and glue was used, a remnant of which is visible top left. Secondly, the glass has a gouged scratch, top middle, which is hardly noticeable. Thirdly a small piece of glass is stuck behind the glass and surround to the right and there's also a tiny remnant insect stuck bottom left corner. Finally, there's tiny damage to the card mount, just to the left of the painting's title. All in all, I would recommend a diy 'overhaul' or reframing if possible.
The Union Steam Ship Maori (8303 tons)was launched by Princess Margaret in 1952. The ship began operating on the Lyttelton-Wellington run from 1953. Capable of carrying over 950 passengers, she completed more than 6000 crossings and was retired in 1972 and sold for scrap in 1974. Hence, this 1986 painting must've been created by the artist from an available image.
The artist, Chris Kerton has signed, dated and titled the artwork. The visible painting measures 50cm by 29cm(the frame 76cm by 56cm) and it is able to be hung.
See photos, including of the issues.
