Description
A large vintage print of an antique lithograph by the ChCh firm J.T. Smith & Co of a pen & ink drawing by the penman James McKain Meek(1815-1899). Born in Norfolk, Meek arrived in Australia in 1838 and lived in NZ approximately 1874-1890. J. T. Smith & Co, ChCh was a printmaking and lithography business working from the 1870s until the early 20th Century.
The subject of the artwork is William Shakespeare("Shakspeare") and it contains detail on his life and plays, as well as profound descriptions of admiration of the "unrivalled Bard of Avon".
The lithographic print has been adhered to a solid heavy wooden board and it appears to have a protective lamination - as there are a couple of small places where the plastic/laminate is slightly creased and I've included a photo of where these minor imperfections have occurred.
A large and heavy item, it measures 69cm by 101cm.
See photos.
