Description
Kintsugi is a Japanese art form – repairing broken objects and accentuating the cracks with gold. The idea in that the breakage does not signify the end of the objects' life, but becomes an important moment in its' history. The cracks and chips are not hidden or obscured – but seen and honoured.
This lovely glass-framed piece displays an iconic William Morris artwork interlaced with kintsugi. Perfect for wall-hanging or to situate on a shelf.
This peacock design is a detail from a larger piece by Morris & Co called "The Forest" tapestry, designed in 1887. Set against an ornate background of acanthus leaves, the fiery colours make the bird reminiscent of a phoenix, a symbol of rebirth and new beginnings.
The kintsugi info card is glued to the back so anyone would be able to read the meaning behind this piece of artwork. Measurements 23x18x4.5cm, glass cover. Each kintsugi item is handmade, making each one a truly unique piece. Courier NZ wide.
