Description
A mixed media creation titled "Trying to fit in can be difficult" by the international designer/artist Hilton McConnico(1943-2018).
Hilton McConnico was born in Memphis Tennessee, but moved to New York to be a fashion house designer and after winning a ball gown design competition with Vogue he moved to Paris in 1965, where he stayed for the rest of his life. McConnico started working for Ted Lapidus and then with Yves Saint Laurant and Hermes. From the 1970s he was also active in the French film industry primarily as a costume and set designer. Winning a Cesar Award(French 'Oscar') for the 1983 film "The Moon in the Gutter". In 1987 he began working with Daum's Crystal Studio and one of his creations was presented by French President Mitterrand to US President George HW Bush.
In 1990, back in Memphis Tennessee an exhibition at the Brooks Museum of Art, the largest in Tennessee, was devoted to his full and illustrious career. A career that included artworks such as this original mixed media of painted petals and a leaf; with a title that everyone who is 'different' can surely relate to.
This substantial artwork is a rare object to have available in NZ.
The artwork's frame measures 57cm by 72cm, it's protected behind glass and in good condition. The frame has a couple of nicks on the inside bottom near the signature.
