Not far from Lindis Pass, near Omarama at the head of the Waitaki Valley, is an unusual geological feature known as the Clay Cliffs. these cliffs have formed when the rock rich clays of the area have worn away leaving the exposed rocks to protect the clay underneath. This has resulted in an eerie collection of narrow defiles, and castle like projections in the cliff face.
