The Pink and White Terraces are extraordinarily beautiful terraces captured the imagination of all who visited them. But when Mount Tarawera erupted in 1886, it buried the famous "eighth wonder of the world" and the terraces now lie, like sunken treasure, at the bottom of Lake Rotomahana.
