This was originally published in 1870, and a childrens edition in 1930 . This was reprinted in 1952 , 1957, 1962 , 1968 & this edition in 1972.

It is ex - library , ( and sadly it has no names or date stamps as it appears never to have been taken out of the library - they didnt know what they were missing ! )

It has a very handsome hardback front cover underneath a scruffy dust jkt which has had the acetate library cover removed .Nevertheless , the illustration on the front cover is STRIKING !

The black & white illustrations aret quite exquisite. The book has no foxing , but it does have a slight musty smell , as it has been in storage . From a smoke free home ( Ive owned it for many years - my children went to a Waldorf school & really loved these stories )
