A bilingual collection of the histories, genalogies, songs and chants of the Tainui people descended from the occupants of the Tainui canoe, who arrived at and settled the area around Kaawhia Harbour about 1300AD>
The stories which include Tainui's crossing from Hawaiki to Taamaki, the battles of Wairangi and his people in the Tuu-Aropaki district, Manioptp's wives, the arrival and killing of Hou-taketake and his people at Paa-oneone, Kaawharu and Te Huaki, and the return of Whare-tiipeti and Tapaue to Waikato, weave in colourful and striking detail the daily lives as well as the epic battles of the Tainui people.
The reader gains a sense of the courage, the humour, the cunning, the passion, the attitudes and beliefs - and above all an understanding of and respect for the history of Tainui.
