A Most Noble Anchorage By Marie King New Book (a few light marks on cover) Published 1992 Hard Cover One might say Marie Kingʻ accidentally became an Historian and Writer because of World War II. She was appointed to the Russell Centennial Historical Committee in 1939, and shortly found herself alone on the Committee with the task of compiling the townships history- all members having been called to war service. The History completed Miss King joined the WRNZS with which she served for several years. In 1956 she was one of a small group that organised the long delayed Russell Muesem, and she later became Muesem curator. She was awarded the Queens Service Medal for Public Service in 1984 and life member . This book which the author has spent 15yrs researching and writing covers events from the pre Waitangi Treaty era through the wild and exciting times of whaling ships and Maori Wars to present day.
