She was appointed to the Russell Centennial Historical Committee in 1939, and shortly found herself alone on the Committee with the task of compiling the townships history- all members having been called to war service. The History completed Miss King joined the WRNZS with which she served for several years. In 1956 she was one of a small group that organised the long delayed Russell Muesem, and she later became Muesem curator. She was awarded the Queens Service Medal for Public Service in 1984 and life member .
