De Haenan was a gifted painter, particularly of people and animals, and many of these plates depict dynamic action and also show an acute observation of Tsarist Russia.
Condition: See pictures for condition. Very Good plus condition. Not ex-library. No bookplates or writing in endpapers. Boards have some shelf wear. Front cover has a light vertical crease. Corners bumped but square and spine ends lightly frayed. Hinges stressed with some wear but holding. No guttering or foxing. Title page & frontis present.
