These are a very high quality 55% alumina brick (SK36) designed to take temperatures up to 1400 degrees C under load. The higher alumina content gives them greater resistance to thermal shock (temperature change) which is important for home projects which are heated infrequently.

They are also a very good looking brick (in a brick sort of way :-)) to make your project look smart and professional.
