Up for sale is this stunning swamp kauri slab. Received a bunch of slabs from an old guy in part trade for some plywood. Sold the rest and this is the one i wanted to keep. Unfortunately i am moving south later this year so its with a heavy heart i have to part ways with this beautiful piece.
Slab was milled in the late 60’s and has been shed stored ever since Slab has a borer patch on one side (approx 1200mm long, 250mm wide & 75mm deep) and an intergrown knot. Other side has a couple of tight knots. Cant see any other signs of borer. Piece has very even symmetry for around 2.6m then has a kink in one end. Has already been rough sanded and live edges removed
My dream for this slab was to make a 2.4m long symmetrical dining table and a 1.2m long coffee table which would have around half of the borer patch on each. I wanted it to be a matching land and sea table set by filling the borer patch on the dining table end with green epoxy and putting momentous from the bush in there like ferns, cast antlers, pig tusks, ammo shells ect. On the coffee table end i wanted to use blue epoxy and put momentous from the sea like paua shells, fish hooks ect. On that end the grain is quite wavy and there is also a couple of small wave shaped borer patches that would look wicked with blue epoxy
