Description

The Celestron C14 is a benchmark in the astronomical world. This one is mounted on a top spec Losmandy equatorial mount which also has a strong following. It is a schmidt cassegrain telescope that combines a short tube length with long focus length potential. Our local society has asked me to list this telescope because it is simply not being used. We have a C11 and our members have no trouble using it because of its basic hand controls. The Gemini system on the losmandy has proved to be far too complicated for our astro enthusiasts using our observatory. This system has a lot of quirkes and faults, and needs to be taken up by someone who has good IT comprehension. We think that the best way forward is to have someone who understands IT a lot more and perhaps use it with a laptop.
The telescope itself is in great condition optically, however the tube itself has suffered cosmetic damage with bubbles and blisters as seen in the hi res pictures attached. The Losmandy mount seems to be in pristine condition. However, it is mounted on a pier which is permanent, so the telescope will be offered as a tube assembly plus Losmandy mount only. And pick up only, as this is not an easy one man job to remove. My personal viewing experience has been second to none, including the Homunculus in the Eta Carina nebula, the only time I have ever seen the dumbbell visually. We will list it a t $5400 or near offer, a bargain when you consider what you are getting for the money. We are however open to realistic offers. It comes with 3 eyepieces and a 2inch to 1inch and a quarter adapter. I have checked the RA and DEC slewing and have included a close up photo of the control box without the cover.

  • Anyone who knows about telescopes will know this is the bargain of the century. charen (958) • 1:03 pm, Sat, 2 Aug as long as they are capable of getting it to run, it is a bargain that is for sure. turbotek1 (8) • Saturday, 2 August 2025
  • What are the faults with the Gemini losmandy mount? Does the mount slew correctly on both RA and DEC axises? Does the mount or the controller have USB inputs that enable a laptop to be connected? Thanks Buddha buddha999 (85) • 9:12 pm, Sun, 3 Aug I checked the RA and DEC slewing and they seem to work fine, it is the hand control that is so fickle, I checked inside the control box and it does seem to have a usb outlet plus other odds and ends, I have added a photo to my listing. turbotek1 (8) • Sunday, 3 August 2025
  • Just an FYI. You can run the Gemini 2 off a computer without the needing to use the hand hand controller. stefan112 (35) • 11:02 am, Tue, 5 Aug thanks for the tip. turbotek1 (8) • Tuesday, 5 August 2025
  • I would need to take a look at the mount and telescope before making a bid. If it would be possible to have a contact number that would be helpful 🙂 buddha999 (85) • 1:21 pm, Tue, 5 Aug 0224935190 Terry. turbotek1 (8) • Tuesday, 5 August 2025
