Description

For sale is my Tom Evans 'Groove SRX mark 11'. I bought this amazing phono stage as 'ex demo' from a Tom Evans dealer In 2016. I returned it to Tom Evans, a couple of years ago, for a service and some upgrades. Suitable for cartridges with outputs in the 0.2 to 0.5 mV range. Has user adjustable cartridge Input resistance and capacitance values. The outboard PSU is set for 230V / 50Hz. My rural Supply varies between 230V to 245V, and Tom assured me that this would be OK. It will be fine on a 240V supply so is suitable for Oz or NZ. You can, when, or If desired, return this phono stage to TEAD to be upgraded to the latest 2.5. Or just enjoy it as it is.

  • Hi there , do you know how much the upgrade will cost ? Thanks k*****s (56) • 10:53 am, Thu, 8 May Hi and thanks for looking at my listing. I'll get a quote from Tom Evans and let you know. spindoctor4277 (28) • Thursday, 8 May 2025
  • Thanks . That's great 👍 k*****s (56) • 11:30 am, Thu, 8 May Hi again, Tom Evans says he has recently started to upgrade SRX mk2's to SRX mk3 version. This Involves changes to the main PCB and a new, larger, external PSU with larger mains transformer. This will cost you $4,000 + freight. Tom sent me an email from a customer who's just upgraded from an SRX 11 to an SRX 111. I'll Include it in a separate answer spindoctor4277 (28) • Thursday, 8 May 2025
  • I have now listened to several Lps offering various music genres. My re-action, very, very impressed. "Bowled over" - was I believe the prediction you accurately made. (Sorry and my apologies- but I did originally think your rating was probably a little over enthusiastic - pleased to be wrong about this, very wrong!) I am obviously not an experienced hi-fi equipment reviewer so I will list up words that I feel best describe my initial observations/feelings when listening. Seller comment Thursday, 8 May 2025
  • You can add any superlative you want to any of them - it would probably apply. Clarity - detail, until now, where was it all hiding from me? - richness - boldness - almost 3d sound - presence, almost as though the actual instrument was a few feet from me - not harsh - clarity and detail (I know I said that earlier but I just wanted to be really clear about this, could make out words and hear sounds that I have never heard before - made me smile Seller comment Thursday, 8 May 2025
  • more alive - more depth - more interesting - more enjoyable. In accordance with my lack of professional judgement and experience, I would summarise the performance as fantastic, fucking fantastic! Thank you so much. My very best regards, Peter Seller comment Thursday, 8 May 2025
  • Wow , that is unbelievable . How can you make one of the best Phono preamps sounding soo much better? Thanks . I assume the cost of the upgrade is in NZ dollars k*****s (56) • 9:42 pm, Thu, 8 May The actual cost, Tom quoted me, is for 2,000 pounds (NZD 4450) plus return freight. That's if you deal with Tom directly. I get a small discount so i can organise the upgrade for NZD 4000 plus freight. It would also be best to confirm just when Tom Evans can do the upgrade! They are typically working through a waiting list of new builds and upgrades. spindoctor4277 (28) • Thursday, 8 May 2025
  • Thanks for that . Sounds good . If I buy your Tom Evans I will spend some time with it before I decide to upgrade . Thanks k*****s (56) • 11:09 am, Fri, 9 May Hi again, that would be my advice, too. You can enjoy the SRX 11 as It is, knowing that you can bring it upto latest spec' when it suits. A couple of well know reviewers use a Groove SRX 11 in their reference systems! Long time owners of Tom Evans gear, know that buying previous versions and getting them upgraded to latest spec' is the smart option for owning his gear without paying new prices! Please note if you decide to go ahead. I was asked, yesterday, to fly over to Darwin for a few weeks. spindoctor4277 (28) • Friday, 9 May 2025
  • That may cause a month's delay is sending the SRX to you Seller comment Friday, 9 May 2025
  • Hi again, If you want to buy the SRX, now, then I'll pack It and arrange for It to be sent to you. Seller comment Friday, 9 May 2025
