Neil Young rocks on, his belief in the joy of music is profound and his archive is remarkable - he truly has been the soundtrack of my life!
He took his dislike of MP3 and low-resolution music replay in general to the degree that he and the late Charlie Hansen of Ayre Acoustics developed the Pono Player.
A site was built that supported hi-resolution files. The players were offered as a standard colourway in yellow and black or as an engraved aluminium signature edition supported by a raft of artists who had heard them and were convinced by the notion.
The initial kick-starter offering was enormously successful and funded the release of a Toblerone shaped pocket player that delivered a replay that restored the boogie in the music bleached out by the i machinery of the time.
The site failed in the streaming wars but the players live on - I use the JRiver media platform as it has an affinity for Pono but I believe other sites work.
I have two of these and as I de-clutter and reduce I will sell one, the James Taylor Signature - as pictured and working and sounding as it should.
I rotate my two (the other is a CSNY) and use mostly Naim equipment and either Chord or Naim or QED interconnects - I am including QED cables for 3.5mm aux or to Naim Din.
As pictured, with leather case, instructions and welcome note, Pono charger with cable and an adaptor to suit, 2 x QED cables and the original outer box (the wooden box was not shipped to NZ due to our customs restrictions).
These sell occasionally internationally and I have priced this accordingly. Please ask any questions before the auction ends. Free shipping within the Motu only.
