Awesome 3 Head deck from denon, enjoyable to use with large fast meters, sound quality is 9/10 (10 being nakamichi dragon), hard to get much better sound quality than this, wow and flutter is ultra low compared to alot of late 3 head decks, Glass heads so never need to worry about them.
- Please note there is one flaw with these: the rca jack shields come off to easily, I recommend short extension cables
selling due to only needing one good 3 head deck for testing etc

Hi good on you for all the hard work servicing and calibrating this. Just 2 questions,: 1) Are you using calibration tapes or frequency generator? 2) The noisy pots, are they sealed? Not possible to clean? aucklandcurios (757 • 6:22 pm, Sat, 16 Aug )Hi, proper calibration tapes (replaced every so and so) for playback calibration and new or near new TDK D60 or SA90 etc for recording calibration, the pots need to be opened up ideally and cleaned but risky, I have contact cleaned them but not perfect, in normal use its ok, all proper good test equipment, I do a full calibration on all decks I sell/own (which is heaps :) They sound so much better after done a full calibration, my reference deck is a teac V-770, Thanks Aaron discover_audio (275 • Saturday, 16 August 2025 )Great job Aaron. I will be sending you my Akai GXC-325D. I have not serviced it for almost 7 years now. Its about time to have one check over. aucklandcurios (757 • 6:31 pm, Sat, 16 Aug )Hi, yes thats ok, make sure its not rusty as older Akai's can be, buy my 1x red banana plug listing, Thanks Aaron discover_audio (275 • Saturday, 16 August 2025 )Hiya what do you mean by the rca jack sheids can come off easily? And the crackly pots, are they likely to get worse or cause issues later down the track ? Many thanks Josh joshuapartridge (19 • 1:06 pm, Tue, 19 Aug )Hi, denon tape decks from this age range have weaker rca shields (ground) than normal so if your very rough they rip off, I would suggest small extension cables, just a thing to note. the pots only have a slight crackle after 35 years? so unlikely to get worse in a long time, it is possible to open them up and better clean them but its risky. Only really the rec input has slight crackle (when turning) others are ok by memory, Thanks Aaron discover_audio (275 • Tuesday, 19 August 2025 )Thankyou joshuapartridge (19 • 3:30 pm, Tue, 19 Aug )Hi, no problem, I also have another 3 head denon coming up (just need to paint the top) dr-m20 ,Thanks Aaron discover_audio (275 • Tuesday, 19 August 2025 )Ok, what do you think is the better of the 2 ? joshuapartridge (19 • 3:43 pm, Tue, 19 Aug )drm-800a is better and more features etc (hx pro etc) dr-m20 is still a good 3 head but not top spec, dr-m20 will be around $500, Thanks Aaron discover_audio (275 • Tuesday, 19 August 2025 )I have some important tape/player related questions, as it's clearly OK to ask you and you're obviously a good person to ask. Too much for this message box though, which has a character limit, (and it'd just be a distraction on the listing anyway). So could you pleas e-mail me, then I can reply? Thanks very much. daniel-p-22-at-g-mail-dot-com . lefunk22 (23 • 10:04 am, Sat, 23 Aug )no problem, I sent electronic m-ail discover_audio (275 • Saturday, 23 August 2025 )
