Grandstand Astro Wars

Made in New Zealand (Grandstand Leisure NZ Ltd) Made under license to Epoch Company Ltd, Tokyo, Japan

Grandstand's Astro Wars was a tabletop electronic space shooter game from the early 1980s, licensed by the British manufacturer Grandstand from Japanese company Epoch and distributed in the UK, but also available in New Zealand through retailers like Martins Toys. This VFD-based game featured fast-paced shooting gameplay similar to Space Invaders and is now considered a classic piece of retro gaming history, with digital versions available and original units appearing on auction sites.

Saved my pocket money and purchased this from Martins, Hastings, maybe 1981?

Box has seen better days. (See Pictures) Instructions leaflet and Product Warranty Card are in good condition Game itself:

  • Sound a bit scratchy. It’s always been like the sound plate is a little loose inside.
  • Left/Right controller. Works but you need to be a bit forceful when you move left or right.
  • No mains adapter included (It died years ago)

Tested with a multi adapter. Works fine. Jaycar and PB Tech have them for about $20 Tested with C batteries, photos attached to show it works with batteries as well.

Collection:

  • Browns Bay Auckland
  • Happy to post

Pacman, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, Defender, Centipede, Tron, Mario Bros, Galaga,
