A superb antique English gentleman’s bamboo walking stick, mounted with sterling silver collar and crook handle tip by William Henry Collins (W.H.C), hallmarked London, 1933.
Details: * Length: 915mm * Shaft diameter: 15mm * Crook length: 110mm (17mm diameter at widest) * Ferrule: 25mm steel cap * Hallmarks: Lion Passant (sterling), Leopard’s Head (London), date letter “S” (1933), maker’s mark W.H.C (William Henry Collins) * Materials: High-quality bamboo shaft, sterling silver mount and collar, steel ferrule
Condition: Exceptional for its age – 92 years old and barely used. Strong and sturdy bamboo shaft with excellent colour. Sterling silver fittings retain their original crisp engraving, showing only light surface wear.
Provenance: This cane was assayed at the Goldsmiths’ Hall, London in 1933 and bears the full and correct hallmarks. William Henry Collins was a noted London silversmith, registered for fine mounted silverwork during the interwar years.
Collector’s Note: An authentic and highly collectible piece of English craftsmanship, ideal for collectors of silver, walking sticks, or Art Deco period antiques. Genuine London-made examples in this condition are scarce.
Condition: As is typical with antique bamboo canes, there is a fine age-related stress line at the back of the crook. It remains stable and secure, with no impact on strength or presentation, and is considered a normal characteristic of period bamboo. If desired, it could be easily and discreetly stabilised with a small application of wood glue.
Overall absolutely excellent condition
