Kowhai Sophora tetraptera Seeds, this is the large leaf kowhai not the more common fine leaf species, havested 2025, approx 40 + seeds. Stunning median sized tree, with large bunches of yellow flowers.

Kowhai seeds have very water impenattibal shells, they can take up to 5 years to germinate if you just sow them as they are. To get them to germinate relatively quickly I hold the seed in a pair of fine nosed plyers and with a sharp knife cut a nic out of the shell, I have good germination rates doing this. Other techniques that I havent tried but others use is to pierce the seed shell with a needle or use sandpaper on it.

Then Soak in lute warm water for a day and sow, they will come up within a month..
