THIS IS POSSIBLY A RARE SAPPHIRE ? CABOCHON FROM THE JEWELLERS ESTATE MUSEUM GEM CABINET WELCOME TO ASK QUESTIONS.
Listing for sale is what the estate believe to be a late Victorian c1880-1890 this 10mm blue/grey cabochon sapphire bought from a sale of various gems set in 10ct red or rose gold at an Auckland auction in the 1950's, it was going to be set in a ring or brooch. It has what looks like a cross or line across the blue surface as you move it around in various light. A lovely cabochon which is about 4ct but hard to measure, the last picture is with a LED to show a line across the gem as you move it.
Type: The estate notes believe it to probably be a late Victorian blue/grey quite stunning sapphire cabochon.
Treatment: Natural Untreated unheated .
Origin found in Burma, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand .
Hardness= it is 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it's an effective jewelry stone.
