The Nobel Prize-winning writer Dario Fo applies his inventive genius to Rossini's comic opera in its premiere DVD release. Recorded under the musical direction of Maurizio Barbacini, Fo's production brings fresh vitality and colour to the story of Lisetta, and of her father's attempts to find a husband for her through an advertisement in the newspaper La Gazzetta. Filmed using high definition cameras with multitrack sound.
This opera of Rossini, written in the same year as 'The Barber of Seville', contains gorgeous music that swept me along. I borrowed this years ago and decided that I wanted it as part of my opera collection since it will be played regularly in the future. I loved the production and was in complete agreement with the directors's belief that to complement Rossini's music something should be happening on stage all the time. The sets and staging are imaginative and there are very good choreographed dancing interludes which cleverly complement the production The acting skills are very good bringing out the farce of this opera. The singing is good so taken all together, this Blu_Ray is one that I am glad to have purchased.
