By the early 80s , Barry Douglas seemed to have a fairytale career unfold before his very eyes. Teachers (curcio) Masterclasses (bolet), competitions (van cliburn, tchaik), the location (london), concerts, I mean-- bam!!! What blessings. His technique is stable, but bordering on the insane, his sense of pulse is electrifying, and his sense of lyricism is very satisfying. Obviously the concerti are the stars of the show, but the preludes are bonus gems that you won't want to miss.
