“Festival of the senses” and “brilliant continuation of a collaboration” was what the Sächsische Zeitung wrote on the occasion of a concert with this very program at the Central German Heinrich Schütz Days in Dresden in October 2010. Italy – The sun-drenched country in southern Europe has always been considered the epitome of art and culture. As in painting, sculpture and architecture, many decisive innovations in music history also came from Italy. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was Venice in particular that, as a center of music cultivation, attracted young composers from all over the world like a magnet to perfect their artistic skills there. Heinrich Schütz traveled to the lagoon city for the first time in 1609 and this visit was to be decisive for his future life and compositional work. The new CD “Jauchzet dem Herren aller Welt” is dedicated to this formative influence of Italy in the different eras of his work: starting with a piece from the “Italian Madrigals”, which Schütz wrote after studying with G. Gabrieli, and the double choir psalm concerto “ I thank the Lord with all my heart” from the Psalms of David, the famous “Gloria a 7” by Claudio Monteverdi, with whom Schütz stayed in 1628, to to the title piece “Jauchzet dem Herren aller Welt” from Schütz’s opus ultimum, the “Swan Song”.
