Description
New item from Waihalla, the afterlife for wood - hand made on Waiheke Island.
This guiro instrument and scraper are made from native New Zealand kanuka (a hard and dense wood, great for this kind of instrument). When the scraper stick is run across the grooves it produces a ratchet like noise, a bit like a frog croak. The deepest tones are made with the middle of the stick equally between the resonator slots, but a higher pitch can be made by running nearer the slot, and a lighter sound is achieved if the contact point with the stick is nearer its end. You can also just tap it to get a tone, or make rapid back and forth motions - there's a huge range of sounds to be made with this instrument.
Carnauba wax finish, guiro overall dimensions: 242x56mm.
