What is FIV?
FIV is a virus that affects a cat’s immune system. It makes cats more susceptible to infections, but it does not mean they are sick all the time. Many FIV-positive cats live long, happy, healthy lives with proper care.
FIV is spread primarily through deep bite wounds, so it’s most common in outdoor, undesired male cats. It is not easily spread through casual contact like sharing food bowls or grooming.
Living with FIV An indoor home limits exposure to infections and prevents transmission to other cats. A home with some land and not as many neighbours cats is perfect Can live with other cats if introductions are careful with no fighting. Regular vet check-ups help catch infections early. A healthy diet, stress-free environment, and prompt treatment for illnesses can allow an FIV-positive cat to live 10+ years.
