River – Soulful, Smart, and Full of Heart

River is a stunning 4-year-old retired greyhound with a big heart—both in personality and in the large brindle heart-shaped marking on his side. With his white coat and dark brindle markings, River has a regal presence that turns heads. But don’t be fooled—he’s a softie at heart, charming everyone with his affectionate, people-focused nature.

This clever boy is eager to please, thriving on human connection. He’s already mastered “touch” (great for recall), “sit,” “down,” “wait,” and “on your bed.” He’s toilet and crate trained, and knows how to settle in beautifully at home. River is very food motivated but polite around people with food, making training a breeze. He walks nicely on the lead, enjoys playing with toys, and is happiest being near his people. Friendly to everyone, he’s a loving companion who brings joy and charm to every moment.

River would do best in a home as an only dog or with another calm, compatible medium to large dog. He’s been happily fostered with four other greyhounds. A home with children over 10 would be ideal, as he can get a bit jumpy when excited during play. He loves being part of the action but also appreciates his chill time. Currently fostered in Hokitika, River is ready to travel for the right forever home.

River is not cat trainable.
