Mei is a 7, almost 8yo purebred Japanese Akita looking for a very specific retirement home.

She is extremely human-focused and super affectionate - she wants to be everyone’s best friend! Mei is very well trained in basic obedience, with zero bad habits, no destructive tendencies, no separation anxiety. She’s crate trained (happy to be left for the day while you’re at work), walks nicely on leash, ignores other dogs when out and about, and travels well in the car. She’s very food driven and will do anything for a treat, she’s even starred in TV commercials and shows.

Mei does have a few needs, so I’ll be selective about where she goes.

No other dogs – She must go to a home with no other dogs and no interest in dog parks, daycare, or similar environments.

No other pets – This includes cats, poultry, rabbits, etc.

No young kids – She has never shown aggression toward children but avoids small humans and their grabby hands. Teenagers are fine.

Mei has had a couple of minor health issues. One is a blocked duct in her left eye which may weep for about a month once a year. I just wipe it daily with a tissue, it doesn’t bother her. After being spayed earlier this year, she lost some coat and had an itchy belly, which resolved with medicated shampoo and Apoquel. She’s never had skin issues before. Otherwise, she’s in excellent health, fully hip/elbow/eye and DNA tested with great results.

She’s mothered two beautiful litters in 2020 and 2022, and we maintain close relationships with those homes, happy to connect you if that interests you.

We’re based in Northland but travel often to Auckland and Hamilton and can bring her with me!
