I’m heartbroken to say that due to the end of my marriage and changes in my living situation, I need to rehome my beloved whippet, Raymond. This hasn’t been an easy decision. He’s been a wonderful companion, and I want to make sure he finds a home where he’ll be just as loved.
Raymond is a 3-year-old male whippet/lurcher with a sweet, affectionate nature. He’s playful, energetic when he wants to be, and adores a good run followed by couch cuddles. He’s friendly with other pets and enjoys meeting new people and dogs. He is desexed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.
He’ll thrive in a loving home with someone who can give him companionship and regular exercise. Whippets are sensitive, loyal dogs who do best close to their people. Raymond may show a little separation anxiety at first, but this usually eases within a few days. On lead, he may bark at passing dogs out of frustration at not being able to greet them.
He’s very expressive—if he feels ignored, he’ll let you know. He’s always been an indoor dog and wouldn’t cope as an outdoor-only pet. Like most of his breed, he loves comfy beds and especially couches.
He’d do well with another playful dog. He greets people by jumping up and can get excitable in loud environments, so might not suit homes with very young kids. Confident children aged eight and up should be fine. Most of the day he’s a relaxed lounger with short bursts of energy.
He’s reasonably well-trained, intelligent, and enjoys learning tricks. His recall is decent, though as a sight hound he may ignore you if he spots prey.
He lives with cats he’s known since puppyhood, but likely wouldn’t accept new feline housemates. He can be left alone for parts of the day, but the transition needs some care. I’m happy to support on this.
I’m based in Gisborne and happy to meet potential adopters to make sure it’s the right fit. I’m also open to travelling or meeting halfway. If you’re interested, please tell me a bit about yourself and feel free to ask any questions.
