Description

5 years old

Meet Max. Part time potato, full time loveable goof ball.

It is with the heaviest hearts that we are exploring the possibility of rehoming of our 5yo Staffy x Bullmastiff. This is not a decision we are making lightly and is not one we are in a hurry to rush.

For the past 4 1/2 years, Max has been soaking up the only child/dog lifestyle, developing a taste for the finer things in life until along came his kid sister.

With a toddler on the move, Max’s patience is wearing thin; creating an unsafe environment for them to coexist in. To be clear he has never lashed out at her or any person, but we do not recommend he is housed with children under 5.

More about Max:

  • Had him since he was 8wks old (his Birthday is in June)
  • Scared of the dark
  • 30kg fully grown, gentle natured but unaware of his size (he’d be a lap dog given the opportunity)
  • Has lived with cats, doesn’t understand why they don’t want to play tag
  • Has lived on a farm - okay with large stock, calves are a bit scary
  • Eat, sit, lie down, shake, sit on mat and spin on command
  • Crate Trained & travels well (has been known to travel Hamilton to Wellington without bothering to open his eyes despite being offered)
  • Indoor dog
  • Expert Gardener - will only harvest carrots/tomatoes when ripe (otherwise isn’t known to dig holes)
  • Doesn’t sit on furniture or beds (otherwise it goes to his head)
  • Sociable though has been attacked previously - as one kennel described ‘he’s a gentle soul that does well with 1-2 play mates’

Max’s Medical History

  • Max comes with all of his jabs and relevant vaccines
  • He is neutered
  • He has problems with his knees that have never been fully diagnosed (he has undergone X-rays that showed some swelling). Day to day this does not impact his quality of life and is managed with anti-inflammatoires as needed (approx once every 2 months this may flare up for a couple of days). Practically this means he isn’t big on runs but to be honest he runs out of steam before he’s knees are in trouble.
