If you run your model directly from a DC source such as a battery or plug pack then this low cost device is just want you want for speed control Turn the knob to provide a speed control from about 5% to around 99% of the rated speed. Press the forward button and the motor goes forwards, release the button and motor stops. Push the other button and motor reverses. Release the button and it stops

This uses pulse width modulation PWM technology similar to ESCs on radio control systems.

THIS MEANS THAT UNLIKE OLDER CONTROLLERS THAT VARY THE VOLTAGE THIS UNIT GIVES CONSTANT TORQUE ACROSS THE TOTAL SPEED CONTROL

Take for example the 100 rpm 6V motor I sell. Reducing the voltage down to 2 volts drops the speed down to about 30 rpm but at that speed it has no power and is close to stall. With this device & a 6V supply you can change the speed from about 5 to about 100 rpm with negligible change in torque across the range,

These work on any DC motor up to about 10A equivalent DC Current.
