Description
A very unusual antique 9ct gold pendant which at first glance may look like a cameo.. but rather than being a piece carved from shell it is a side portrait of a lady which is made from rose gold and affixed to a base which looks to be made from a thick amount of white enamel or similar. This is held in a 9ct rose frame which is stamped "9ct".
The chain necklace was on the pendant when I bought the piece, and is gold plated ( tested), and the thread barrel clasp I believe is likely brass.
The white backing when viewing with a strong jewellers eye glass shows masses of tiny bubbles not seen with the naked eye. (I've attempted to show this in my last photo under a macro setting).
This is not a type of jewellery item I've ever seen before so enamel is the closest description I can come up with.
The pendant including its bale measures 20mm long by 14.5 mm wide.
Happy Bidding. Note: Will only be sent within New Zealand. Thank you.

Hi there, pretty necklace .... I'm wondering if the base could be sponge ( or another) coral? The 'bubbles' are very similar .....maybe ? Cheers, Juls p*********l (1034 • 1:56 pm, Fri, 25 Apr )Hi there.. Thank you. I really don't know.. but it's cold and glassy smooth to the touch. sunking1 (3984 • Friday, 25 April 2025 )Having given some thought to this..the tiny bubbles seen remind me of that seen on antique Chinese Porcelain when viewed through a jewellers eye glass. It is obviously not Chinese Porcelain, but perhaps a type of early porcelain nonetheless. Seller comment Friday, 25 April 2025 Hi there. Is the chain hallmarked? Cheers. b*********r (436 • 12:58 pm, Sat, 26 Apr )Hi there. No, the chain has been tested as gold plated. Only the pendant is gold.
