An antique pair or ornate Victorian gold plated lorgnettes.

They are clearly marked on the underside of the nose bridge 1-20 14K which is a thicker than normal layer of 14 carat gold and is 1 part per 20 gold

They are beautifully made and a lovely example of Victorian craftmanship. They are hinged and sprung form

To open the bottom ridged section of the handle is gently pulled down and they spring open. To close, push the lenses gently back inward and they lock into place

The lenses are equivalent to approx 1 - 1.5 reading glasses and when doubled up closed they are magnified higher

The length is 12 cm and open they are 9 1/2 cms wide, closed they are 4 1/2 cms wide

There is a loop to at the bottom to attach to a chatelaine or fob chain as was the custom in the Victorian era

They are in extremely good condition and are at least 120 years old

A stunning pair of lorgnettes made with Victorian craftmanship, sadly this sort of quality in eyeglasses is no longer seen today
