Description
The Normans were a fierce and ambitious people, descended from Viking raiders who carved out a realm in northern France—what would become Normandy. Born from the crucible of war and seafaring conquest, they rose in the 10th century as one of medieval Europe’s most formidable forces. Their very name, "Norman," comes from "Northmen," a nod to their Viking ancestors who once terrorized European coasts. By the 11th century, they had stormed onto the world stage with legendary conquests, none greater than their audacious victory in 1066, when William the Conqueror seized the English crown. Masters of warfare, castle-building, and politics, the Normans left an indelible mark on history, reshaping kingdoms and leaving behind a legacy that echoes through the ages.
This exceptional Norman-style sword showcases the renowned Oakeshott Type X blade, a design emblematic of the era and region. Crafted from high carbon steel, the broad blade features a wide fuller and a substantial tip, offering both strength and rigidity with a fine 1mm edge. The sword is mounted and traditionally peened with a solid steel Oakeshott Type A pommel, commonly known as the "Brazil nut" style, which provides balance and authenticity. Complemented by a gently curved crossguard and a timber handle wrapped in leather, this sword embodies both historical accuracy and craftsmanship, making it a distinguished addition to any collection.
