Description
Cut 1.3-poundhigh-iron metamorphic rock from the historical glacial moraines of Rimu, Hokitika. This area is famous for its unique geology, including the extensive Alpine Schist belt and the rare ruby rock. This striking specimen features a vibrant combination of colors, with green areas likely due to iron and magnesium-rich chlorite and actinolite, contrasted by distinctive coral pink sections. Based on geological insights, the coral pink is suspected to be Piemontite, a beautiful mineral from the epidote family. With a Mohs hardness of 6-7 for its harder components, comparable to nephrite pounamu, this stone is exceptionally strong and durable. It offers great potential for carving or as a display piece for collectors of unique New Zealand minerals.
