Description
Would you like to contribute towards NZ wildlife conservation and get an original artwork in return? You're in the perfect place.
Pukaha National Wildlife Centre is experiencing ongiong financial issues. Pukaha is vital for conservation in NZ, educating and inspiring people of all backgrounds, as well as being involved in beneficial breeding programmes of our taonga species. Like many others, I have visited Pukaha many times and leave feeling inspired every time. I want to do my bit to help raise funds - 75% of the proceeds of this auction will be donated to Pukaha.
Titled "A Tribute to Kahurangi", this artwork was created shortly after Kahurangi passed away in 2023. Mixed media, created using alcohol ink, acrylics and oil paints. A3 size (297 mm x 420 mm), painted on card, ready to be framed. It has a matt varnish coating that protects against UV damage.
My original writeup from 2023, shortly after the passing of Kahurangi:
Kahurangi, or "Kahu" was a special bird unlike any other. She was hand reared after being found as an abandoned chick. She never learned survival skills, so could not be released into the wild, instead being moved to Pukaha in 2005. It's thought she was raised by a man, as Kahu showed a very obvious fondness for men, especially those with beards! She would occasionally say "nice work!" and other phrases in a very bloke-y kiwi accent. She would often wolf whistle and say "kokako" to people. Her funny phrases were far from the haunting calls of wild kokako, responsible for giving them the name "grey ghosts". Kahurangi was a brilliant ambassador for her species.
If you had the priviledge of meeting her, you'd understand why she was my favourite bird. This piece was based from a few of my own photographs.
Please note, there is a light crease in the card on the left-hand side, though this will not be visible once framed.
Thank you for checking out this auction. Please ask questions if you have any.
