Cable is sized by the square millimeters or Cross-Sectional Area (CSA)
Diameter of the cable copper cores can be measured to calculate the CSA
CSA = (3.14 x d x d)/4 4.5mm dia = 16mm² CSA 5.6mm dia = 25mm² CSA 6.7mm dia = 35mm² CSA 8.0mm dia = 50mm² CSA 9.4mm dia = 70mm² CSA
The outside diameter of the cable is approx.
16mm²=9mm OD
25mm²=12mm OD
35mm²=13mm OD
50mm²=15mm OD
70mm²=16mm OD
American wire gauge (AWG) cable sizes
4 = 21mm² 2 = 33mm² 1 = 42mm² 1/0 = 53mm² 2/0 = 67mm² 3/0 = 85mm²
We also stock a full range of the bits you would want to fit on the ends of this cable like plugs, lugs, earth clamps, electrode holders, inline sockets for extension cables etc. If you buy fittings when you buy cable, we will crimp lugs and connect fittings to your cable for no extra cost.
For battery cables we will fit red heatshrink at the ends to identify the positive wire.
