Discover top LEGO Star Wars sets: iconic ships, beloved characters, galactic adventures in our top 10!

Back in 1977 a new star was born with the release of the first Star Wars film: Episode IV - A New Hope. The movie was initially only released in a select number of theatres in the US because producers weren't sure how well it would perform. But it obviously exceeded expectations and since then Star Wars has had a cult following, with the first film ranking as one of the highest grossing films of all time (when inflation is considered).
In 1999 one of the greatest movie franchises of all time combined with one of the greatest toys of all time: LEGO. This year they celebrate 25 years of Star Wars LEGO and we have compiled a list of 10 of the best sets.
If there ever was a Star Wars build to display then the UCS Millennium Falcon is that. The father of all Star Wars LEGO and is one of the most visually impressive LEGO sets ever to be released. With 7,541 pieces, it is currently in the top 5 of the largest LEGO sets ever produced. The world record for the build is just over 7 hours. We gave it a go and ended up completing it in just under 5 days! You can watch that build here.
Something to be aware of is the pure size of this set as it measures 84cm long and 56cm wide making storage quite hard! Most people opt for a display case to ensure that it remains safe and secure and when you’ve spent that long building it, you can see why! It comes with a group of LEGO Star Wars minifigures including Han Solo, Rey, Finn, BB-8, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, C-3PO, 2 buildable Porgs and a buildable Mynock.
‘The Child’ but also known as baby Yoda is the cutest guy in the galaxy. This set is now retired but can still be found on Trade Me. 1,075 pieces make up this cute creature and it offers an exciting build for Star Wars fans. Once built, baby yoda can have his ears and expressions adjusted. It also comes with a super cute small ‘The Child’ LEGO minifigure.
One of the most iconic things when people think of Star Wars is the beloved droid R2-D2. This is quite an advanced build due to the complexities in the construction, where there is a LEGO technic internal structure that controls the retractable mid-leg allowing it to move around like it does in the movies.
4. BB8 - 75187
This droid made its first appearance in the 2015 Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where it worked with The Resistance and subsequently found Rey. Voted as one of the top 12 toys in 2017, this LEGO set contains 1106 pieces and is recommended for ages 10-16. Their playful childlike movements have been put into LEGO form with the use of mechanics and rubber bands making the head bobble realistically.
There are quite a few different LEGO Star Wars helmets, but let's be honest - the ultimate helmet is that of Darth Vader. “You don’t know the power of the dark side” until you have built this LEGO set. Another smaller sized build that is 834 pieces but is a real conversation piece when on your shelf. There are lots of different helmet options available that you can find for a fraction of the brand new price on Trade Me.
6. Ultimate Collector Series AT-AT - 75313
Another UCS model, and one that can be pretty hard to find is the AT-AT model. The All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) is one of the most famous symbols of the Empire’s military. This build has 6785 pieces and is recommended for LEGO fans aged 18+.
If you prefer a set that is built to be played with rather than displayed then the 75365 Yavin 4 Rebel Base is the one for you. This build comes with 10 LEGO minifigures - Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, General Dodonna, Jon Vander, Garven Dreis, Rebel Fleet Trooper and Rebel Crew, and R2-D2 and R2-BHD LEGO droid figures which will provide you with hours of fun.
8. Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama - 75352
Want to relive your favourite scene over and over again? LEGO has produced a handful of dioramas that allow you to do that. Our personal favourite is the 75352 Emperor’s Throne Room diorama which shows the fight between Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Emperor Palpatine.
If you’re a fan of LEGO Star Wars ships then the Invisible Hand is one to add to the list. This is a smaller LEGO set so you don’t have to worry too much about finding enough space to store it once it's built.
10. LEGO minifigures
The beauty of LEGO is that you can create your own little world with it from a combination of different sets. LEGO minifigures are a great way to do that. Live your dreams of saving the universe with a Luke Skywalker or Yoda minifigure or if the dark side is more your thing then Stormtrooper or Darth Vader minifigures are also available.
