Chery’s iCaur brand will launch in Australia in early 2027, with the boxy V25 SUV confirmed as its first model – and CarExpert understands the same vehicle is expected to be offered in New Zealand.

An iCaur product manager previously confirmed the brand would also launch in New Zealand in 2027. Following today's announcement in Australia, Chery have confirmed to CarExpert that iCaur is now targeting a New Zealand launch in the second half of 2027, with confirmation of the first model or models expected in early 2027.

The iCaur V25 will be the first model to launch across the Tasman and will make its Australian public debut in September, ahead of its local launch.

iCaur is Chery’s lifestyle-focused ‘new energy’ brand, offering vehicles with distinctive, boxy styling and electrified powertrains. The brand was founded in 2023 and is known as iCar in China, with the ‘u’ added to its export-market name.

While Australian pricing, specifications and final launch timing are yet to be confirmed, Chinese-market specifications give an indication of what could eventually make its way across the Tasman.

The V25 uses an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain, with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine acting as a generator rather than directly driving the wheels.

Two electric motors provide all-wheel drive, with combined outputs of 335kW.

A 33.68kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery provides more than 210km of claimed electric range, while total range is quoted at more than 1200km.

The V25 measures 4636mm long, 1920mm wide and 1855mm tall, riding on a 2820mm wheelbase. That makes it slightly larger than the Toyota RAV4, while its upright styling gives it a distinctly more rugged appearance.

Other available equipment in China includes 21-inch alloy wheels, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, along with a large touchscreen and a suite of driver assistance technology.

The V25 sits between the smaller electric V23 and larger V27 in the iCaur range. Both models have already been shown in right-hand drive form, with the V27 previously identified as a likely model for the New Zealand market.

The V27 uses a similar EREV setup, while the V23 is a battery-electric SUV with an 81kWh battery and a claimed 430km range.

For now, Chery has only confirmed the V25 for Australia, with further details to be announced closer to its launch.

However, with iCaur already confirmed for New Zealand in 2027, the V25 is expected to form part of the brand’s initial local offering. Pricing, specifications and timing for New Zealand are yet to be confirmed.

iCaur would be the third Chery Group brand to launch in New Zealand, after its namesake and Omoda Jaecoo.
