Description
Inexorably linked to NAD (due to some shared design team members and philosophies, a shared factory, and MANY MODELS that bore an uncanny resemblance to the other brand!) Proton sometimes flys under the radar. And that’s a shame, because they made fabulous gear in their own right, even using better quality components in many instances.
Like this 1998 AM-452 and AT-470 tuner. A slim line minimalist design with no bangs and whistles, just very very good audio performance.
The AM-452 amp delivers 25 watts per channel into 8 ohms, a little more into 4 ohms, and much higher peaks on demand. The single speaker output is via binding posts that can also accept 4mm banana plugs.
It has inputs for a turntable (via a very good quality phono stage) plus 4 line level (aux) inputs. It has a record output (independent of volume control) AND pre amp outputs that follow the volume control.
Bass and Treble controls are present as is a loudness compensation circuit and a mono switch.
A very desirable little amplifier.
The tuner is crystal clear, and working immaculately.
