A pair of finely cast antique gilt bronze candle holders, likely French, circa late 19th. Each features a clothed figural child climbing what appears to be a stylised lamp post, referencing early gas or street lighting. At the top, the candle cup symbolically represents the lamp’s flame — blending function with poetic metaphor.

Though similar in form, the two figures are distinct in their posture and clothing, indicating they were cast as a complementary pair. Decorative elements include classical garlands and drapery at the top and an octagonal base that mimics cobblestone paving.

Both pieces are signed at the base, possibly “H.W.” or “M.H.” — likely the initials of the sculptor or foundry, though not yet identified. These are refined decorative objects typical of Belle Époque sensibilities, where sculpture, light, and narrative intersect.
