Mashad rugs are originated from Mashhad city which is located in Khorasan province of northeastern Iran. It is a holy place and destination for pilgrims. Mashad hand-knotted rugs in the sixteenth to eighteenth have floral designs with beautiful colour combinations. Mashad carpets colouration background is generally in red-blue or pomegranate-red. Normally in the designs used palmettes, flowers, leaves, vines, stylized motifs, and minor borders.
