Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

As Front of Whare, you will be responsible for providing essential administrative support and reception services in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth operations within the Emergency Department and delivering a welcoming and efficient experience for patients, whanau, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality front-of-house reception services
  • Greet and assist patients and whanau with empathy and professionalism
  • Manage patient data, documentation, and administrative systems accurately
  • Provide timely administrative support to clinical teams
  • Maintain clear communication with staff and departments within the hospital
  • Work across a rotating roster, including afternoon, overnight, and weekend shifts

This position requires excellent communication, strong attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm and organised under pressure. Flexibility and a commitment to teamwork are essential, as is a genuine desire to support people in a healthcare setting.

The salary band for this role is $67,943 - $77,141 (pro-rata), depending on experience.

About the Team/Service Location

Our Emergency Department (ED) at Hutt Hospital is a Level 4 emergency care service, seeing around 80,000 patients each year. We care for a wide range of presentations, from the 'walking wounded' to critical emergencies like cardiac arrests and major trauma. The ED is particularly busy during the winter months, requiring a responsive, resilient, and compassionate team.

At the heart of our mahi is patient-focused care, and our Front of Whare team plays a crucial role in ensuring every person who walks through our doors feels supported, safe, and respected.

We are a vibrant and close-knit support team who consider our staff as whanau. We work together with aroha, professionalism and a commitment to excellence, delivering seamless and responsive administration services for all visits, admissions, transfers, and discharges from the Emergency Department.

We value manaakitanga, integrity and teamwork, and we're looking for someone who shares those values, someone who will bring a calm, welcoming presence and a genuine desire to make a difference.

About you

We're on the lookout for an engaged, compassionate, and professional individual to join our whanau in the Emergency Department.

This is a 24/7 rostered and rotating role, so flexibility is essential - you'll need to be available to work afternoons, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

You'll thrive in this role if you're someone who:

  • Brings energy, empathy and professionalism to every interaction
  • Excels in high-pressure or fast-paced environments, staying calm and focused when it counts
  • Has excellent time management and multitasking skills, and can meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy
  • Is customer-focused, with a genuine desire to support patients, whanau, and colleagues
  • Has a strong eye for detail and takes pride in delivering high-quality work
  • Is confident working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and communicates with kindness and respect, especially with those who may be distressed or vulnerable
  • Is a team player who shows manaakitanga in their work, and actively contributes to a positive, supportive team culture.
