In London's East End an inept ex-convict struggles to be a father to his two teenage sons. Out on parole after 8 years inside, Bill Hayward returns to his home to find his two sons, now 11 and 15 abandoned by their mother. Unwilling to play Dad, Bill is determined to move on. Dean forces his Dad to stay to help fool social services and Bill starts to realize what he has been missing.

Through trial but mostly error he struggles to be the Dad he never was. However, when 11 year old Jimmy gets pulled into the violent world of drugs by Bill's old criminal gang, Bill is faced with a stark choice - his family or his freedom.
