If you’ve been waiting for something a bit different, this is it. Tucked into the landscape at the base of Mt Ruapehu, this round cedar-clad yurt isn’t just a house — it’s a vibe. Built around 24 radiating ceiling beams (or “cords,” for the yurt purists), the whole space feels centred, grounded, and kind of magical. That big circular skylight at the top draws in sunlight like a spotlight, giving the open-plan living area a glow that shifts with the day.

The kitchen is sleek and practical and yes, there’s a gas cooktop and a dishwasher, and the bathrooms have everything you want — a deep soaking tub, walk-in shower, and clean modern finishes. There are three bedrooms, the master having it's own ensuite, all tucked into the curve of the walls, each with its own view of native bush and open sky. You can hear the birds. You can see the stars. It’s peaceful, but not isolated — town and trails are just a short hop, skip and a jump away.

Outside, the wraparound deck is basically an extra living room — coffee at sunrise, wine after skiing, or just sitting still and watching the weather roll in.
