Description

This listing is for a truly superb example of the British Royal Navy Victorian era Pattern 1827 Commissioned Officer's service sword

HAND-ENGRAVED sword was "Made for the Trade" by 1 of the superior makers of the early Victorian era. One ricasso shows the inserted Brass "Proof Slug" An indicator of the blade having passed the PROOF TESTING, the other ricasso left "blank" (For retailer to be able to place THEIR Name on the ricasso & claim to have made the sword)

The back edge of the sword bears an ARROW marking indicating the CENTER OF PERCUSSION showing this sword was made FOR USE & was not intended to be just an effete parade sword

Sword complete with its original QVR period scabbard, sword belt, & UNUSUALLY retains its original QVR period sword suspension straps (Seldom if ever retained)

The QVR Cypher sword belt buckle is FIRE GILT (Gold plated) as are all other metal fittings

The original STINGRAY SKIN handle wrap is 100% complete retaining ALL of its triple-twist bullion wire wrap TIGHTLY bound 100% SOLID guard & grip with ZERO wobble or any movement whatsoever even after 150+ years = a certain indicator of the highest-quality manufacture that this sword was & remains

All leather is in an exceptional state of preservation

Sword sits snugly in its scabbard & retained by the inner folding-guard which securely locks the sword in place, still WITH the ORIGINAL leather seal-washer for the scabbard throat on the gilt Brass 1/2 basket guard with QVR crown (1837-1901) ATOP THE FINELY DETAILED HIGH RELIEF FOULED ANCHOR

The belt retains its "Regain Hook" for holding the sword when action or use is not anticipated

The 31.5" blade has NO bends NO cracks No chips NO rust NO pitting, & shows the hand-engraved (NOT cheap acid-etched) QVR Monarch's crown & traditional Fouled Anchor motif

This is most certainly the finest, most complete, & 100% original Pattern 1827 QVR Navy swords that I have ever offered for sale
