Description
Have you dreamed of owning a Ferrari?
Commonly regarded as one of the most influential video games of all time, OutRun was created by SEGA's Yu Suzuki in the golden age of arcades and remains the standard for what a driving game should be.
Not many of these deluxe moving units have survived and few in the world are in this condition. In my 25 years in the hobby, this was the biggest arcade project I have taken on. It took literally months and months of work. The entire cabinet was disassembled and rebuilt from the ground up.
But sadly I am out of room and it may be time for someone else to enjoy it.
A summary of the work includes:
- All metal parts stripped and powder-coated, including the large base and 'sleigh' sections
- The movement mechanism was disassembled and rebuilt with new lubrication
- New belt for the movement motor
- New cabinet decals applied
- The game PCB was sent to Australia and professionally serviced including all of the unreliable Fujitsu chips being replaced
- Installed the new 'enhanced' game roms
- New heavy-duty caster wheels were welded onto the 'sleigh' section to provide smooth movement left and right
- Monitor chassis serviced by Pintech
- New LED lights as required
- New Road Map sign
- New quality speakers in the head rest
- Pedals completely rebuilt
- New high quality Mean Well power supply
- New old stock shifter installed
- New carpet and rubber matting
- New power cord
Comes with a tidy copy of the original SEGA manual
I also purchased and installed a set of new reproduction PCBs which were available for a short time on a UK web-forum. These include; the cabinet movement board, the rear lights relay board and the audio amplifier board. The original boards are included and still work fine. Having these spare boards is worth its weight in gold!
Here is a video I took not long ago of the game in action:

Just wanted to say - that is awesome man great work! h*******3 (121 • 3:32 pm, Fri, 17 May )Hey, thanks very much, hopefully it goes to a good home :-) subfocus (736 • Friday, 17 May 2024 )Wow!! You definitely do an amazing job restoring these machines. Good luck with the auction. Maybe I’ll have to sell you my X-Men cabinet just to see what it looks like when you’re finished. s****1 (283 • 11:49 am, Sun, 19 May )Cheers Nick! Yes I think these machines deserve to be restored to their full potential, so much history to them. Considering they had to be shipped from Japan to NZ, they were always positioned front and center in the arcades. subfocus (736 • Sunday, 19 May 2024 )What a flashback! I remember playing this game so much as a kid. The blonde passenger’s hair moving in the wind etc… and the beep, beep beep countdown! It’s made me day seeing this listing. Well done on the restoration! d*****3 (312 • 3:14 pm, Sun, 19 May )Likewise, I have so many memories playing Outrun both in the arcade and on consoles, it really changed the landscape. It has a lot of replay value trying to get to the end. The new 'enhanced' ROMs are even better as they add more music and course options. Thanks for the positive feedback! subfocus (736 • Sunday, 19 May 2024 )
